"Honoring Community" ceremony at Garvin Park

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Later this morning, Keep Evansville Beautiful plans to recognize all those who helped bring the Garvin Park fountain back to life.

The historic fountain's much-needed facelift was finished last year.

The fountain has been at the entrance to Garvin Park on North Main since 1925.

It's needed repairs and restorations throughout the decades.

Keep Evansville Beautiful says those happened back in the 30s, the 60s and the late 1980s.

Another big revitalization effort wrapped up in 2011, enabling the fountain to be turned back on, with the addition of LED lights for light shows.

So today, Keep Evansville Beautiful is holding a ceremony to celebrate not only the fountain, but all those who helped contribute to the effort to get it looking beautiful again.

That "Honoring Community" ceremony begins at 11 this morning at the fountain.

All are welcome and there is no cost.

Light refreshments will be served.
