GIBSON CO., IN (WFIE) -

Early this morning the Indiana State Police investigated a three vehicle crash on SR 168 East of Owensville that claimed the life of a Princeton woman.

Troopers say at approximately 1:00 a.m. Anthony J. Yokel, 25, Port St. Luce, Florida was driving a Gold Daewoo eastbound on SR 168 just east Owensville. At the same location was a silver Chevy Blazer and a green Pontiac Grand Am traveling west on SR 168.  Yokel's vehicle went left of center into the path of the two westbound vehicles.

The driver of the silver Blazer, Marvin Christian, 49, Owensville noticed the Gold Daewoo in his lane of travel and steered to avoid a head-on collision. Yokel's Daewoo sideswiped Christian's Blazer and then hit the green 1999 Pontiac Grand Am head-on.

The driver of the Grand Am, Lauren R. Hale, 20, Princeton was not wearing her seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Gibson County Coroner's Office.

Yokel was wearing his seatbelt and had serious injuries.  After being extricated from the vehicle, he was flown to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville where he remains in serious condition. Marvin Christian was not injured.

SR 168 was closed for approximately three and half hours while emergency crew worked and cleared the scene.

The crash is still under investigation and no charges have been filed but alcohol and or drugs do appear to be a factor in the crash.
