OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Nearly 80 cars in an Owensboro neighborhood were hit by egg throwing vandals. Friday night, police looking for the suspects who may be facing several charges.

"At 1:30 in the morning, we noticed lights from the police officer's automobile were shining through the bedroom windows and woke us up," recalled resident Teresa Taucher.

But the Tauchers thought nothing more and went back to bed.

"We just figured they were chasing someone," Teresa said.

But when they woke up "There were several on it, we had to wash both vehicles this morning as soon as we woke up."

Teresa didn't expect breakfast to be served on her windshield.

"We had a patrol unit doing general patrols in this area and noticed a couple vehicles vandalized with eggs," said Owensboro Police Officer Michael Hathaway.

Owensboro Police say five suspects, three adults and two juveniles, are responsible and may face criminal mischief charges.

"Even though it may have been a prank or something the suspects thought was funny to do, it does cause damage," Hathaway said.

The Tauchers cars are just two of 78 vandalized vehicles in the area.

Luckily, so far, neighbors have not reported any serious damage, but have already thought of ways to teach the vandals a lesson.

"Make them come over and wash and wax every one of the vehicles involved. It may deter them from doing it in the future," Teresa suggested. "As long as they learned a lesson."

Police are still talking with vehicle owners to see just how much damage has been done.
