OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

An Owensboro woman is in fair condition after jumping from the Blue Bridge Monday morning.

Witnesses say the woman stopped her car and leaped over the railing around 9:30 a.m.

A worker on a Yager Materials tug boat was able to pull the woman from the river, conscious and breathing. He's a man many are now calling a hero.

Ross Newton doesn't consider himself to be a hero. He says he was just trying to do the right thing.

Newton was on the Yager Materials tug boat when he saw the woman jump.

"We seen her hit the water, so we ran over there. I grabbed her by the arm and pulled her head out of the water and she kind of spit of a bunch of water and started breathing," said Newton.

Newton says he'll never forget this day.

"I know that picture kind of stays in your head a little bit. Ain't much you can say about it. I guess kind of a good thing we were there," Newton said.

Newton tells 14 News he's happy he was able to give the lady who jumped a second chance.
