EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
After a busy first quarter, things will slow down at the Ford Center for a couple of months, a change VenuWorks Director, Scott Schoenike says is usual at arenas.
Employees are using the down time to look ahead.
"We'll look at menu items, all the pricing and try to revamp the concession menus," says Schoenike.
He says his concession manager is scouring the U.S. looking for the newest and best food items.
"Every year there seems to be one hot item that is going to be kind of going around the United States in the arenas, so that's the one we'll try to catch," says Schoenike.
Darius Dunn, Assistant Director of Operations says, "It's a tight window to fit a lot of things in, so typically for that first summer after opening, you go back and you look at yourselves and you say how can we step it up a notch?"
Perhaps the answer is in making things more efficient.
How many of you are tired of standing in long concession lines?
Schoenike says they are working on a bypass system, where you can place an order on your phone while still sitting in your seat.
"It actually will tell you by the cue level of how many minutes. It will say, come pick your food up in seven minutes, or three minutes," he says.
As for that hot food item, what will it be? Schoenike has no idea.
"I'll be probably one of the last ones to know. When they give it to me it'll probably be all packaged up," he says.
Schonike says you can expect to see these changes around October when the NHL and basketball season start.
