Authorities say an 8-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy apparently drowned in separate incident over the weekend.
The Indianapolis Star reports an 8-year-old girl slipped and fell Saturday evening into a pond at an apartment complex on Indianapolis' west side. Her body was found an hour later in about 10 feet of water. The girl's name has not been released.
In southeastern Indiana, WTHR-TV reports a 14-year-old boy drowned Sunday afternoon in a lake at the Hidden Paradise campground outside the Decatur County town of Saint Paul.
The Indianapolis boy was at the campground with a football team celebrating a state title. Witnesses told state conservation officer that the victim ran for the water and was told to stop but replied, "I can swim."
