HOPKINS CO., KY (WFIE) -

A traffic alert for drivers in Hopkins County.

On the Western Kentucky Parkway near the Hopkins County, Caldwell County border, crews are installing rolling road blocks Thursday that will cause delays for drivers.

Drivers should expect delays of about 20 to 30 minutes during this construction.

Wednesday, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet started construction on the westbound lane of Interstate 69.

The work includes the reconstruction of the Kentucky 2619 overpass at mile marker 21.

For about a six mile stretch, traffic will be slowed to 10 miles an hour by police, allowing contractors to erect portions of the new overpass.

Officials say they're planning on four or five rolling road blocks and each one will cause about a 30 minute delay to place the different bridge structures into place.

"There's just a lot of construction work going on through this area, so we just need everybody to slow down, take it easy, be patient. The main thing is to not get in any hurry because anytime you get in a hurry bad things can happen," said Keith Todd with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

The biggest delays will be on the eastbound lanes Wednesday and construction will begin around 9 a.m.
