WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -
There is some movement in the case of a fire damaged home that's become an eyesore in a Newburgh neighborhood.
A settlement has now been reached months after the fire last November on Overland Drive.
For months, neighbors have told us they want the boarded up home cleaned up. Now, that may happen.
Residents of the neighborhood remember the fire like it was yesterday.
"My wife is the one that woke me up. I slept through it almost. We were both here. The firefighters came and asked us both to evacuate, take our cars as well, because they didn't know how severe it would be," said neighbor Andy Phillips.
Nearly seven months later, residents know how severe the fire was. It left a scar behind on their block.
"It's a bit of an eyesore. It's a bit of a looky loo situation," Phillips said.
The fire was originally believed to be meth related, but the State Fire Marshal's Office ruled it as undetermined.
Megan McCutcheon, the owner of the home and her husband Todd McCutcheon have never been charged.
Jim Kornblum, an attorney for Megan, says State Farm Insurance has agreed to settle the claim on the property.
Kornblum says Megan has received an initial check and is now taking bids from contractors. He also says McCutcheon is now deciding whether to rebuild and move back, rebuild and sell, or demolish the home and just sell the lot.
Neighbors tell 14 News anything that leads to clean up is a step in the right direction.
"Getting it taken care of is, I think, everyone's main priority in the neighborhood," Phillips said.
State Farm estimates that it would take three months to rebuild on the lot.
Warrick County Officials say the Area Plan Commission will hold a meeting June 11th to discuss the case.
