The Green River District Health Department recommends citizens to take the following precautions to protect themselves and their families from the West Nile virus. Here are some tips:
-Avoid being outdoors around dawn, dusk and the early evening.
-Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants whenever you are outdoors.
-Spray exposed skin and clothing with insect repellant containing Permethrin or DEET.
-Apply insect repellant sparingly to exposed skin. An effective repellant will contain 30% DEET for adults and 10% for children. Avoid applying to children's hands and face, repellant may irritate eyes and mouth. Do not apply products containing DEET on infants.
-Whenever using an insecticide or a repellant always read the manufacturer directions of use, as printed on the products label.
