West Nile Protection Tips

The Green River District Health Department recommends citizens to take the following precautions to protect themselves and their families from the West Nile virus. Here are some tips:

-Avoid being outdoors around dawn, dusk and the early evening.

-Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants whenever you are outdoors.

-Spray exposed skin and clothing with insect repellant containing Permethrin or DEET.

-Apply insect repellant sparingly to exposed skin. An effective repellant will contain 30% DEET for adults and 10% for children. Avoid applying to children's hands and face, repellant may irritate eyes and mouth. Do not apply products containing DEET on infants.

-Whenever using an insecticide or a repellant always read the manufacturer directions of use, as printed on the products label.

Note: Vitamin B And Ultrasonic devises are not effective in preventing mosquito bites
