The Gibson County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the woman who died in a motorcycle accident in Somerville.
Authorities say 69-year-old Barbara Welch from Petersburg was dead on the scene of the accident, which happened Sunday just before noon. She was a passenger on the bike, and she was wearing a helmet.
Her husband was driving the bike. Jon Welch was taken by helicopter to St. Mary's in Evansville. He is now listed in fair condition.
Officials on scene say the wheels on the motorcycle apparently locked-up, forcing the bike into a skid. It then collided with a guardrail.
An autopsy reveals that the cause of death for Barbara Welch was blunt force trauma to the head.
