EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Boys and Girls Club Summer Program had a down and dirty start Friday.

More than 100 kids showed up to help out with the Mayor's Clean Evansville initiative.

Thanks to Springleaf, all of the kids got free t-shirts and a free lunch.

Volunteers spent time this morning sprucing up the area around Bayard Park and Bellemeade Park.

"We love the fact that our kids are inspired and are instilling a sense of community service. They're cleaning up their own neighborhood, we like them doing that and they have a good time doing it," said Assistant Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club Tonya Staup.

This is the first of many events the Boys and Girls clubs have planned this summer.
