TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

UPDATE: Deputy Daniel Leon was discharged from the hospital Sunday.

A Smith County Sheriff's Deputy was injured in a crash Thursday night, according to Department of Public Safety officials.

Deputy Daniel Leon was directing traffic for a special event at Tyler Metro Church on Highway 110, towards Whitehouse, when a woman hit him with her vehicle.

Sheriff J.B. Smith says Deputy Leon turned around in time enough to see the woman coming, jumped, and landed on her car.

Sheriff Smith says Leon is skinned up pretty badly and is severely bruised.

Leon is the officer who was shot in 2005 when Constable Dale David Getty was murdered.

The deputy was taken to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, and authorities expect him to recover.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the woman driver, but DPS is still investigating.
