Posted: Updated:

Mount Pleasant residents who evacuated their homes and businesses due to a gas leak have been allowed back into their homes as of 1:00 p.m., authorities tell us.

Around 11:45 a.m. KLTV learned that authorities were evacuating homes in Mount Pleasant because of some sort of gas leak inside the city. Officials say the gas line in that area has been cut off.

Authorities tell us that a city construction crew hit an unmarked gas line, causing the leak.

Homes and businesses located in the 10 blocks north of 5th Street and Van Buren were asked to evacuate. No one was injured.

According to Titus County Sheriff's Office, the Mount Pleasant Police Department was evacuated as well and all calls are being transferred to the Sheriff's Department.
