PETERSBURG, IN (WFIE) -

There's an update on the man whose left leg was amputated at the knee following a mining accident in Pike County last Tuesday.

According to our media partner, The Princeton Clarion, the man, 34-year-old Kevin Truxal is 'doing great'.

Truxal was pinned between a machine that grinds the coal seam and a hauling vehicle last Tuesday at the Five Star Mine near Petersburg. He's recuperating at the University of Louisville Hospital.

His financee says Truxal may need additional surgery, but if not, he's expected to be home next week.

Five Star Mine is owned by Vectren Energy. Utility spokeswoman Chase Kelley says state mine-safety officials are still investigating the accident.
