EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
An Evansville man is recovering on Sunday night after police say he was beaten in an alley and his car was stolen.
Police say it happened Saturday night on the city's south side.
According to police, Rodney Serio was the victim after they say two men forced their way into his car at a stop sign.
Police say Serio was headed home to his apartment on Madison Avenue at about 7:00 p.m. last night. After pulling out of R and K Gas Station on Riverside, police say Serio stopped at a stop sign near Jackson and Culver, and the suspects entered his car through open windows.
"Everything happened so fast it wasn't funny. These guys came up on him, forced themselves into the car, one of them put him in a chokehold, and told him where to go," said Serio's neighbor Warren Hall.
Once inside, police say one of the suspects pointed a handgun at Serio and told him to follow another man riding a bicycle into an alley. Police say that once Serio and the suspects were in the alley, the suspects beat Serio with a blunt object and strangled him.
"One of them choked him, had him in a chokehold, while the other two smacked him around with baseball bat," said Hall.
The suspects then demanded all of his belongings and then left the scene. The report says Serio then could not find his car keys and left his car unattended in the alley. After seeking help from a neighbor, Serio returned to the alley and found that his car was gone.
"He was incoherent when he hit the door, you know. And he was all bloody and said three black guys just jumped him and beat the crap out of him. You can still tell that he must have had a concussion or something, but he's alright," said Hall.
Hall says he believes Serio's car has been recovered by police.
We have not received word yet on any potential arrests in this case, but we will update this story once further details are made available.
