WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

On Memorial Day weekend, many took advantage of the outdoors and spent some quality time camping.

Almost triple digit heat can be stifling for all, but try doing it without air conditioning. Campers at Scales Lake got creative trying to beat the heat.

"It's like one hundred degrees out here!" said a young camper.

Not quite, but his guess wasn't too far off. Hundreds of campers took advantage of the hot temps by spending the day at the beach at Scales Lake.

"We spent a lot of time at the lake, enjoyed that very much!" said a camper.

A cool dunk in the lake was one way of coping with the heat. For Mark Sandidge, an air conditioned trailer was there in case he needed to get out of the sunshine. But he also had some other alternatives.

"This is the life!" said Sandidge.

His high power fan has kept him cool, along with his ice cold drinks.

"It could be a lot worse. I mean, it's been humid these last few days, but it's not too bad," said Sandidge.

For Judy Williams, it's not that easy. Her group decided to go the old fashioned route by pitching tents. She says they've kept coolers full of ice and sweet tea next to their lawn chairs, but from time to time, the heat has been a little annoying.

"The fires got to be a little much cooking breakfast, but once breakfast was over, not only did we have full bellies, but the fires were out . So we were good," said Williams.

But while everyone freely admits it was a hot one, it didn't put a damper on the good time.

"It's great!" said Sandidge.

"We've had an amazing weekend," said Williams.

Workers at Scales Lake tell 14 News that they're already taking camping reservations for the 4th of July, which is their next busy weekend.
