HENDERSON CO, KY (WFIE) -
Henderson County Animal Control says they've found the man who they say dropped off a beagle at the shelter last week after they closed and Thursday night, they're pressing charges.
Animal Control says thanks to social websites like Facebook and the media, they were able to identify that man through tips from the community.
Chief Animal Control Officer Jason King tells 14 News multiple phone calls from the public led them to that man.
King says the man has four beagles of his own and told Animal Control he thought he was doing the right thing by dropping the dog off, but Animal Control emphasizes, and even has signs posted right where the beagle was left, saying it's illegal to leave an animal at the shelter after business hours.
"We don't ever want to discourage someone from bringing an animal in. We do encourage them to go about it properly, when you have an animal that you need to bring in. Do it during proper business hours so that all protocols can be followed and proper paperwork. And it doesn't leave room for speculation or anything to come up. You know, we'll have all our answers right there," King said.
The shelter says they're in the process of filing charges.
They tell us they've named the beagle 'Chelsea,' and that she still needs medical care, but they say she's going to a foster home Thursday, and has been adopted by a family in North Carolina.
