Western Kentucky drought, no relief in sight

HENDERSON, Ky. (AP) -

The University of Kentucky Agriculture Weather Center is rating western Kentucky as being in a "severe" drought.

The rating comes as the result of sparse rainfall in the last three weeks and soaring temperatures. Henderson, Paducah and Princeton are reported as being among the driest areas in the state.

And there's no relief in sight, according to the National Weather Service.

Daily high temperatures of 90 degrees or higher are expected beginning Thursday and lasting through the Memorial Day weekend. The five-day forecast for the area doesn't call for rain.
