Changes in stoplight pattern come in time for busy weekend

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

City officials say they've changed the stoplight pattern at the intersection of Lincoln and Green River Road to hopefully help with weekend traffic congestion.

This construction project has now been going on for almost two months.

The good news is the city engineer's office says it's now a few weeks ahead of schedule thanks to good weather.

The bad news is it's still a little tricky to get around, but hopefully things will be a little easier this weekend thanks to a change to the stoplights.

Todd Robertson, the Executive Director of the Department of Transportation and Services in Evansville, says they've readjusted the length of time the light on Green River Road stays green.

Now, it will stay green longer over the weekend.

He says since this project began, traffic signal censors have been turned off, so every time there's a change to the traffic pattern, his office has to estimate how long the lights stay red or green.

He says they've been out several times making adjustments at the intersection and went out again this week after 14 News passed on a complaint we'd received about the traffic signals.

"We send somebody out there and find out how many cars do we get through the light at a time and is there anything we can do to try and help that situation. It's a tough thing to gauge during a construction process, but we try to do everything that we can from our perspective to try to help with the traffic and keep the traffic flowing," said Robertson.

Robertson says he encourages anyone to contact their office with issues or complaints. The number is 436-4988.

He says it's helpful for people to know the time of day and the day of the week when giving issues or complaints.
