Kiddie pool no more; Hartke Pool makes a change

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

If you go to Hartke Pool this summer, you'll notice a new patio area, but a missing kiddie pool.

For the last eight years, the kiddie pool has been drained and not functioning. That's because federal laws changed and required the kiddie pool to install a separate filtration system.

That was a change the Evansville Parks and Recreation Department could not afford.

"In order to do that, and separate that out and install it, that would cost us upwards of $150,000, probably closer to $200,000. Unfortunately, we just don't have the funds to do that," says Executive Director of Parks and Recreation Denise Johnson.

The area will now be used as an extra space for people to lounge and sunbath.

Hartke Pool opens this Saturday at eleven.
