EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -
Some bridal parties thought they were going to have to find new tuxes on Tuesday in Evansville after it appeared NTUX had closed up shop.
On Wednesday, the owner tells 14 News it was all a big misunderstanding.
NTUX is not going out of business, they've just moved. They say they'll still be able to serve everyone who's already booked with them and anyone else who's looking for a tuxedo.
"It's a miscommunication," said Max Redmond.
Redmond is part-owner of NTUX and is setting the record straight about his business.
"Monday night at 7:00 p.m., we closed the storefront," said Redmond.
The storefront was in Evansville on North Green River Road. It's now empty, a sign explaining to customers, they've moved.
The new location is a 16,000 square foot former gymnasium in Lynnville.
"I've got over 3,000 tuxedos, 5,000 vests, and 10,000 ties all in stock," said Redmond.
Redmond says they were excited about this move that allows them to quadruple their space.
But it's caused some confusion. Part of the problem was the phone lines.
"About 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m., I started saying, 'it's quiet in Lynnville but this is a little too quiet. What's going on? why aren't the phones ringing?' That's when we figured it out," said Redmond.
Redmond says phones at their new location were supposed to be up and running on Tuesday morning, but that didn't end up happening until 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.
They say that with this move, customers will see a big change. From now on, NTUX will no longer offer a storefront. Instead, they'll come to you.
"We actually come out, bring our garments, show them to the bride and groom, and pick out what they want. We return, fit all their gentlemen, and then we deliver the tuxedos the Thursday prior to the wedding. Then Monday after the wedding, we pick up the tuxedos," said Redmond.
It's a business model he says they've been testing in Owensboro for more than two years, but the transition didn't start off as smoothly as they'd hoped.
"We do apologize to the customers for the confusion, no question. We didn't want any bride for even an hour to think that in any way we're not going to be there for them. We will be," said Redmond.
They say the store hours have not changed, and their phone number is 474-9902.
