OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Monday, around 11:20 a.m., the Owensboro Police Department responded to a possible methamphetamine lab located on the grounds of Newton-Parrish Elementary School at 510 W. Byers avenue.

A school employee found the bottle on the playground Monday morning and called police. School was in session, and officers kept everyone inside as they removed the meth lab.

Detectives with the street crimes unit were called out and verified that the item located on the property near the playground was an active one-pot methamphetamine lab.

The lab was safely contained and removed from the scene without causing any exposure to the children at the school.

"Not only was it an active meth lab, but of course, the location was what stuck out as being an urgent situation, which we wanted to get out there as soon as we could to contain that problem before any of the children were let out of school," said OPD officer Michael Hathaway.

The Owensboro Police Department is requesting anyone with information about this case to call them at 270-687-8888.

If you wish to remain anonymous, call in your tip to crime stoppers at 270-687- 8484. You may be compensated if your crime stoppers tip leads to an arrest.
