Aging bridge and landmark to shut down

NEW HARMONY, IN (WFIE) -

The New Harmony Bridge is expected to close next week.

The White County Bridge Commission says it will shut down traffic on the aging structure next Tuesday, May 29th.

A recent inspection revealed it would cost an estimated $8.4 million to completely restore the bridge.

But since it's privately owned, the repairs aren't eligible for state or federal money.

The New Harmony Bridge was recently named as one of Indiana's most endangered landmarks.
