Evansville officers participated in National Police Week

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Members of the Evansville Police Department Traffic Unit participated in the National Police Week events in Washington D.C. over the past week.

Police say the officers were joined by several hundred Motor Officers from around the country during ceremonial escorts for the families of officers who died in the line of duty in 2011.

The week long events included a candle light vigil where the newest names are added to the National Law Enforcement Memorial, camps for the children of fallen officers to help them deal with their loss, and a service held on Capitol Hill.

While there has not been an officer killed in the line of duty in Evansville in several decades, Evansville Police say it is important to show support for the families and the agencies who have suffered through that tragedy.
