Soon, the Henderson Riverwalk will extend an additional mile to 12th street.
The city has just approved a bid, funding that project with money from an $8 million grant.
Henderson Mayor Steve Austin tells 14 News the Riverwalk along the Ohio was constructed in the early 2000's with some repairs along the way.
He tells us the extension will now make it two miles long, helping improve the look of downtown.
Austin says the lowest bid came in at $1.68 million dollars, just under the project's estimated $1.7 million. He tells us that grant money had to be used within a block of the river.
The extension will run from Hayes Boat Ramp to 12th street, and from 12th street to downtown.
This is the third project made possible by that grant money, along with the new tennis courts and restrooms at Sunset Park.
"We had some wash-outs and some drainage problems, so we'll fix all that. We have a lot of people use the existing riverwalk area. It will have a couple of overlooks. So, it will be a nice situation once we get that," Mayor Austin said.
Austin says work on that project will start in about five weeks. He tells us, in the next few weeks, a decision will be made on what to do with the remainder of that grant money.
