Madisonville seniors can brush on up on skills over summer

MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

Graduating and incoming high school seniors in Madisonville can brush up on their skills this summer.

Madisonville Community College will offer a Transitional Gains Program. The 3 week program is designed to help students who may need extra help in reading, writing, and math.

School officials say it's also a benefit to the local school districts, because of the new accountability requirements set by the state to make students more college and career ready. The best part is: it's free.

"They can move at their own pace, they can work on things that they really need help on while not spending time on things they may be caught up with. So, it's really a way to attach deficiencies in a real meaningful positive way that's going to lead to a lot better prepared student," said Jay Parrent, MCC's Dean of Student Affairs.
