OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Early Sunday morning, at approximately 1:30 a.m., an Owensboro Police Department Patrol Unit pulled over an erratic driver at the intersection of W. Parrish Avenue and Locust Street.

OPD gave 22-year-old James M. Dennison Jr. a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer and says he blew over the legal limit.

Dennison was arrested on the charges related to driving under the influence of Alcohol or Drugs. He was booked into the Daviess County Detention Center.

Dennison, an Owensboro Police Officer since October, 2011, has resigned his position.

"It is unfortunate. Just started his career with the Owensboro Police Department but as we spoke to earlier, if you're impaired and behind the wheel of a vehicle we have to take that into account, not only that individuals safety but the safety of those around them," said OPD Officer Michael Hathaway.

James M. Dennison Jr. was charged with Careless Driving and Operating Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs/Etc. (a Class B misdemeanor).
