HAUBSTADT, IN (WFIE) -
On this Mother's Day, one local mother and daughter shared a very special Mother's Day gift.
Some of us get our mothers some flowers, cards, and maybe even head out to brunch on this holiday. But one young woman in Haubstadt, has given her mom something a little bit more special this year.
Amy Hoefling and her mother, Brenda Hoefling of Haubstadt, say that they have a very strong mother-daughter relationship.
"Yeah. We're on each other," said Brenda.
"We're a team," said Amy.
Toward the end of last year, Brenda was battling health issues stemming from a poor diet and a lack of exercise. Witnessing her mother's declining health, and wanting to improve herself, Amy decided to join Weight-Watchers and get her mom involved as well.
"I decided to join Weight Watchers whenever I quit playing college soccer, and my poor eating habits started to show," said Amy.
"I decided I'd join with her, and we go to the meetings together, we go to the grocery together, we plan our meals together, and it's been really good," said Brenda.
Amy and Brenda say that there are times when one or the other will feel a lack of motivation to diet and exercise. But Amy says that a mother's love and encouragement is unrivaled during difficult moments.
"I wouldn't have been able to have done it this long without my mom. She knows how you feel. She knows when you gain weight or you lose weight, to be happy or help motivate you to work harder next week, and she's on your side," said Amy.
Together, Brenda and Amy have combined to lose about 60 pounds since starting the program together. They agree that better health, and a better quality of life, are great gifts to receive on Mother's Day.
"We encourage each other a lot. We're each other's backbone," said Brenda.
Brenda and Amy Hoefling say that they plan to continue to be a part of the Weight-Watchers program for years to come, and they recommend it to anyone.
