Thursday is 'RED Day.' That stands for Renew, Energize and Donate.
You can participate right now by going to the Roberts Stadium parking lot and donating a canned good to the Tri State Food Bank.
Keller Williams Realty has shut it's doors for the day, because all of their employees are hanging out in the Roberts Stadium parking lot, collecting food.
"It's a day to give back to the community. Their slogan is 'We're going to give where we live,'" said RED Day Team Leader Jenny McBride. "We forget that there's other people out there that need help and are struggling right now."
Another initiative to help the food bank is about to begin. It's the National Letter Carriers Food Drive.
"All they have to do is set a can out by their mailbox and the mail carrier will pick it up and bring it to the food bank, and we'll get it out to hungry people," said Mary Blair with the Tri State Food Bank.
This annual food drive contributes more food than any other. Letter carriers say even though it creates more work for them, it's fun to see those cans waiting to be picked up.
"It's worth it because no one should ever go hungry, and all we're asking is if you put one can out. I have 674 customers so that'd be quite a lot of cans," said mail carrier Kim Payton.
"It is just one day a year and when you look at the big picture, there's really nothing to complain about," said mail carrier Pat Moore.
The Tri State Food Bank says food donations are down, and the demand increases as summer approaches.
They say that's why your involvement in these food drives is so important this time of year.
The food drive at Roberts will continue until about 6:00 p.m. Thursday night.
The letter carriers will be collecting food this Saturday. They say the earlier you get your cans in your mailboxes, the better.
