EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

A man and a woman were arrested by Evansville police and ATF agents after an attempted "straw purchase" of a firearm at an Evansville pawn shop.

Investigators say 23-year-old Tosha Scott tried to purchase a handgun from Deal Brothers on Morgan Ave. Scott filled out the federal paperwork and stated the handgun was for her.

During the transaction, a worker noticed there the man with her, Richard Lyles, made several comments in reference to needing a gun.

The worker did not complete the sale of the gun. The ATF was contacted and began an investigation.

Authorities discovered that Lyles could no purchase a gun because he had a California ID, not an Indiana one.

Both were arrested and taken to the Vanderburgh County jail. Scott is charged with falsifying the ATF form and Lyles is charged with conspiracy to falsify the ATF form.
