O'boro commission to meet again on issue of proposed mine

DAVIESS CO., KY (WFIE) -

Today, the Owensboro Planning and Zoning Commission will review a revised proposal from a coal company looking to locate to Daviess County.

Western Kentucky Minerals wants to mine 692 of acres of land in the Pleasant Ridge area.

The planning commission's last meeting on this issue ended in a tie.

After more than six hours of testimony, the commission deadlocked on the request.

But before another vote took place, Western Kentucky Minerals withdrew their application to make changes to the proposal.

Residents living in the area say the mine would sit too close to home and cause health issues.

Tonight, the commission will review the proposal again.

The area in question is currently zoned for rural or urban agriculture.

Tonight's meeting is open to the public.

It's at 5:30 this evening at City Hall on the fourth floor.
