Resurrection teacher named Leader in Education

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

A Resurrection School teacher gets a big surprise on Wednesday.

Third grade teacher Teri Schneider is this week's Peabody Energy Leader in Education. The announcement was made during an assembly and she didn't have a clue that she was the reason for the gathering.

Schneider's Principal Theresa Berendes nominated Schneider because of her dedication to her students. Schneider is in charge of Teen Power at Resurrection. It's an initiative that encourages teen students to get involved in the community. Schneider and her kids also raised funds for tornado victims in Harrisburg, Illinois and other hard hit areas.

"We do lots of hands on activities, lots of group work where the kids are interacting with each other and myself. Just try to bring some fun in to the classroom while we're learning the academics," said Schneider.

Schneider has taught at Resurrection School for six years and she will attend a banquet hosted by Peabody Energy this fall where she could be selected as Teacher of the Year and win $5,000.
