The Transformational Leadership award recognizes a nurse who is a leader at the bedside, within the nursing unit and/or department promoting mutual respect for all members of the healthcare team. The award winner stimulates and inspires others to achieve extraordinary outcomes and increase their own leadership capacity.
The 2014 Transformational Leadership Nursing Excellence Award is given to Sharyn Townsend. Her nominators commented, "Sharyn is a transformational leader at the bedside. She mentors new nurses and inspires novices to grow. She is one of the best leaders of nurses on Pediatrics."
Sharyn obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Southern Indiana in 2008. She has been a member of St. Mary's nursing family since 2003 when she started as an EMT in the Emergency Department. She was inspired to be a nurse after the unfortunate passing of both her parents. Sharyn was an RN in the Emergency Department and later transferred to Pediatrics.
A certified Pediatric nurse, she is also trauma certified and serves on the Pediatric Transport team. Recently, Sharyn was promoted to Clinical Supervisor on Pediatrics. She aspires to become certified in critical care and neonatal nursing. Sharyn sets high goals for patient care and leads the way for the Pediatric Unit.
