The New Knowledge, Improvements and Innovations Nursing Excellence Award recognizes the professional nurse who is educated about evidence-based practice and research, appropriately explores the safest and best practices for their patients and practice environment and generates new knowledge.
The 2014 New Knowledge, Improvements, and Innovations Nursing Excellence Award is given to Kristen Jones. Kristen's nominators said, "She is an expert at the bedside. She was a leader and trainer for the Emergency Department throughout the QuEST implementation. Her knowledge of the technology is superior. She attended all 6 a.m. regional QuEST meetings and always represented the Emergency Department in the most professional manner."
Kristen obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Southern Indiana in 2011. She joined St. Mary's in 2009 as a patient care tech. Her nominators commented, "Kirsten is the total package and a nurse for all the right reasons." She is ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certified. Kirstin is very involved with the Emergency Department Shared Governance Council, other Councils and committees. She is a trauma nurse and serves as a preceptor, coach and mentor to new nurses.
She led the way with the new implementation of the Emergency Department's QuEST electronic medical record. Her collaboration with the Team Health physicians and the Emergency Department staff helped pave the way for success with QuEST. She is currently working on her Master's degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner and will graduate in 2015.
