EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Hostess Brands has sent layoff notices to more than 18,000 employees across the country. The notices going out under the federal WARN act, which gives workers a sixty days heads up of a large potential layoff.

Over 800 workers will be affected in Indiana. 14 of those employees are right here in Evansville.

Hostess representative Erik Halvorson said, "Last Friday, we mailed conditional WARN notices to all 18,500 Hostess Brands employees around the country. The notices were sent to alert employees that a sale or wind down of the company is possible in the future. However, our goal is still to emerge from bankruptcy as a growing company and there are no immediate actions being taken to sell or wind down the company," Halvorson wrote.  "We are simply fulfilling our requirements by sending these notices."
