Help "Stamp Out Hunger" in Owensboro

Posted: Updated:
OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

It's the 20th year for the National Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.

In years past, Americans have donated over a billion pounds of food.

Owensboro will be holding a food drive this week.

Later this morning city and county leaders will meet here to announce an official proclamation for the Stamp Out Hunger Day coming up on Saturday.

Mail carriers will collect food across the U.S. but the post office wants to make sure everyone is aware of the drive.

Locally, food collected this weekend will go to nine different agencies in Owensboro including the Pitino Shelter and several churches.

"We're just fortunate to be able to work with so many non-profits locally who meet the needs of the homeless and non homeless," said Postal Carrier Rick Miller.

The proclamation with city and county officials will take place Tuesday morning at 7:30.  At the main post office here on Bon Harbor Hills.

If you'd like to donate all you have to do is set out your donations of non perishable food items in or around your mailbox and your mail carrier will pick them up.

If you forget you can always drop off your donation that day at the Old Boys and Girls Club on Frederica St.
