Frisbee golf course taking shape on east side

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

Frisbee golf is expanding in Evansville. A new 18-hole course is taking shape at Vann Park on the east side.

Evansville's Mesker Park has been home to this disc golf course since 2006. It's popularity inspired Nick Fest to build another one.

"Since we installed this course 6 years ago, its really taken off. It's a great sport for all ages, both men and women. We have kids as young as 6 years old and all the way up to adults in their 70s," said course designer Nick Fest.

The installation of a disc golf course does not interfere with the landscape or environment of a park. Organizers say they're very low maintenance. They actually help with the upkeep.

"It's no additional maintenance. It can coexist with other sports going on like walking, running, and dog walking," said Fest.

Fest says the new course, which will be at Vann Park on Evansville's east side , has already been marked with flags, the holes are dug and the concrete will soon be poured. He believes having two courses, on opposite sides of town, will help the sport expand in Evansville.

He says it will also help with local tournaments.

"We just had a tournament last fall and it sold out in 29 minutes," said Fest.

Each course gives local businesses the opportunity for advertisement as well.

"It's 18 holes, all sponsored by local businesses and our local club the Ace Eagle Disc Golf Club, so we've really had a lot of support here locally. Always looking for new sponsors because we have a couple new courses on the horizon as well," said Fest.

Frisbee golf is completely free and all you need are your frisbees.

The course is expected to open May 19. The next tournament is June 30.
