LOUISVILLE (WFIE) -
14 News had special red carpet access at the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, where we asked some celebrities about their favorite parts of the Derby, some hats and fun things they've seen, and some upcoming projects. Here's what they had to say:
"The derby was last night, it's today so I think it's more than just the race, it's the whole event," said Ice-T and Coco from Ice loves Coco.
"It's my favorite sporting event. Not the world series, not the super bowl, not the all-star game, it's the Derby," said Today's Professionals co-host, Star Jones.
Many celebrities on Saturday's red carpet, share the same feelings, praising not just the race, but the fun atmosphere of Derby day.
"I will not stop coming. Trust me, it doesn't matter what you say, I will be back. Listen, you guys got the greatest race in the world. You raise tons of money for charity. The people, the community is so nice," said restaurateur Guy Fieri.
The Office's Kate Flannery said, "The stands are a spectator sport, too. I mean there's the horses and then there's the fashion, so it's kind of a fun, fun day."
"We go to a lot of events but it's nothing like the derby. From the clothes, to the horses, it's just a different type of atmosphere," said Shawn Stockman from Boyz II Men and The Sing-Off.
Don't forget those famous Kentucky Derby hats.
"I saw some crazy horse on a hat, running. I mean, I wish I would've had a glue-gun. I would've tried to copy," said Flannery.
While some celebs are newer to the whole event.
"Last year was my first year, but this is our second and now we know what to expect," said country music artist Miranda Lambert.
Others are veterans and say they'll definitely keep coming back.
"I've been here 12 years, been here 12 years," said former *NSYNC member Joey Fatone.
"It's wonderful. It's wonderful," said actor and comedian Fred Willard.
When asked what makes the Derby so special, The Supremes singer Mary Wilson said," Why, the hats."
"That's why, that's why, that's the whole reason to come back. The experience, the atmosphere. You know, it's just a big party," said Lost actor Terry O'Quinn.
14 News also talked with Governor Beshear. He says the Kentucky Derby is a long-time tradition for his family, and one of his favorite parts is handing out the Kentucky Derby trophy.
