LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Believe You Can, the number 9 horse, has won the 138th running of the Kentucky Oaks. Broadway's Alibi, the number 6 horse, placed and Grace Hall, the number 2 horse, showed in Friday's main event.
According to Churchill Downs, a crowd of 112,552 watched Believe You Can's victory which marked a historic event in Kentucky Oaks history as jockey Rosie Napravnik was the first female to ever win the race.
This was the second largest Oaks attendance. 116,046 fans were on hand for the 2010 running.
"It's unbelievable. I'm just so happy and so grateful to be here. There's a lot of people that are a big part of me getting to this and winning this race and I just can't thank everybody enough," said Napravnik in a post race interview.
Believe You Can paid $29.60, $11.80 and $6.40. Broadway's Alibi paid $6.00 and $4.20. Grace Hall paid $3.20. A $2.00 Exacta bet paid $173.00. A $1.00 Trifecta bet paid $293.60. A $1.00 Superfecta bet paid $1,872.70.
Believe You Can won the race with a time of 1:49.50.
The race was delayed 40 minutes due to severe weather that passed through the area.
