Henderson enters phase three of Riverfront Redevelopment

HENDERSON, KY (WFIE) -

In Henderson Friday, the city is in phase three of their Riverfront Redevelopment Project.

Right now, they're working on putting in some brand new tennis courts on Water Street.

Crews have been out all day, crushing up the concrete on the old tennis courts, material the city says they're going to recycle and use on the new courts.

Assistant City Manager and Project Manager William 'Buzzy' Newman says the current courts have been in place since the late '50s.

He says there will be 12 new courts along with an observation facility and restrooms. Members of Henderson's Tennis Association and community members say it will help local leagues out "immensely," and allow for more tournaments in town.

"I definitely think it would be great for kids. I mean, it brings them more toward the park and the river and the more historical aspects of Henderson," said resident Shannon Frayser.

Newman says this is a $2.3 million project and it should be complete by August.
