OWENSBORO, KY (WFIE) -

Parents of a fallen Owensboro soldier want to help students reach their educational goals.

21-year-old Brandon Mullins died in Afghanistan when his car rolled over an explosive device last August.

Parents Cathy and Tommy Mullins want to give back to the students Brandon went to school with at Apollo High School.

The Mullins are now donating $1,000 to go towards two scholarships in their son's memory.

Students at Apollo High School will be awarded the scholarships.

The winners should display qualities of perseverance and leadership while overcoming significant obstacles in life as he or she pursues successful educational and career goals.

The deadline to apply is May 4. Applications can be picked up at the guidance counselor office.

A selection committee at Apollo will award the Mullins Scholarships at an awards night next week.

For additional information about the scholarship, Apollo students may contact Ms. Jerome or Mr. Tomes in the guidance office or by email amanda.jerome@daviess.kyschools.us or shawn.tomes@daviess.kyschools.us respectively.  Or go to the Apollo guidance web site at http://www.ahs.dcps.org/eaglenet/guidance/scholarships
