HANCOCK CO., KY (WFIE) -

Earlier this week, current Hancock County Schools Superintendent Scott Lewis was selected as the new Ohio County Superintendent.

On Wednesday, Lewis explained why he wants to switch school systems, and what Hancock County's plans are for a new superintendent.

Scott Lewis has been the school superintendent for six years. That all changes in a couple months when Lewis leaves to become Ohio County's Superintendent.

"It's a bittersweet move for me. There's great people here in Hancock County," said Lewis.

"He's been instrumental in getting different initiatives going, our iPad initiative this past year," said Hancock County High School Principal Rick Lasley.

"We were the first high school in the state of Kentucky to have iPads for all of our high school students. The college and career readiness, we've really put a focus on that," said Lewis.

Though Lewis says it was a difficult decision, taking the job in Ohio County was the right move for him. Lewis has been living there with his family for over 20 years.

"Just being able to be around them, be more apart of their education and extracurricular activities. I know the lay of the land there and the ends and outs of a lot of people there," said Lewis.

Lewis will oversee more than twice the amount of students and shares his direction for Ohio County Schools.

"I'm big on technology and vocational education. You don't just go in and just change everything right off the bat. You sort of get the feel for things and the people and you gradually make changes as you go. You'll have twice as many problems, twice as many issues to deal with," said Lewis.

With Lewis about to leave, the Hancock County Board of Education met Wednesday to start its search for a new superintendent.

"We have very strong support in every building. We want someone that would come in and pick that up and run with it," said Lasley.
