Paramedics program coming to Madisonville Community College

MADISONVILLE, KY (WFIE) -

The Madisonville Community College will begin a new paramedics program this fall and they're currently in the process of accepting applicants.

This is the first time in over a decade that MCC will offer a paramedics program.

The National Registry of Paramedic's recently mandated that all their applicants are required to graduate from an accredited program by January 1. School officials say classes will feature a wide range of curriculum including hands on exercises simulating how to work with patients.

Program Coordinator Tim Martin says there's a shortage of paramedic's not only in Western Kentucky, but across the nation, and this program will help fill that void.

"That's what paramedics provide is an advanced level of care right on the scene whether it be at your house or whether it be on the parkway, or wherever at your workplace. You want the highest level of care you can get and that's what this program's going to bring," said Martin.

If you're interested in the program, there will be an informational session on May 24 at the college.
