Tips on keeping the skies above clear

Posted: Updated:

This is National Air Quality Awareness Week, a reminder that we all need to do our part to keep skies as clear as possible, particularly heading into the hot summer months when stagnant air is common.

Here are just a few things you can do to help keep from adding unnecessary pollutants to the air:

  - Buy energy star rated appliances and light bulbs which the government has classified as energy efficient.

- Mow your lawn either early or late in the day when emissions are less likely to hang around in the air and create ozone.

- And don't burn trash or yard waste.  not only does it add significantly to air pollution, but it's illegal in many communities.

Although a hot and humid day is on the way, windy conditions will keep skies from getting hazy from ozone and pollution.
