EVANSVILLE, IN (USI) -
Dr. Ronald Rochon, provost of the University of Southern Indiana, received an Indiana Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Patriot Award for his assistance of Lance Corporal Jeremy Stratton, a USI student who serves in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
"Dr. Rochon gave me the support and knowledge that I needed to tackle all of the obstacles I was facing while planning for my future and not having to give up any of my major commitments to do so," wrote LCPL Stratton in his nominating letter. "Dr. Rochon not only deserves recognition, but should be admired by his peers for his involvement and dedication to the university and the students that attend USI."
Traditionally the Patriot Award recognizes an employer that provides patriotic support and cooperation to their employees who serve in the military.
Stratton nominated the person who took the extra time to support him as a student pursing a degree while committed to serving his country. Dr. Rochon received a framed certificate and a lapel pin.
Stratton is serving in Afghanistan with Company E Fourth Tank Battalion from Fort Knox. He is from Newburgh.
