Two years after applying for a grant, the Evansville Fire Department's new Mobile Data Computers (MDC) are up and running. The $600,000 project involving the Evansville Fire Department and four suburban fire departments went live today.
The MDCs will allow firefighters to see real-time data regarding runs such as, water main sizes, hydrant locations and any other important information regarding the address.
Now in the "beta testing" phase, the crews will be using their new units and working out any problems.
District Chief Ken Zuber and Project Manager said, "After 2 years, the firefighters have a tool that will help them respond more efficiently and better serve the community".
