Evansville Philharmonic is looking for 'movie stars'

EVANSVILLE, IN (WFIE) -

The Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra is looking for 'movie stars' to be a part of their star-studded Hooray for Hollywood concerts at the Victory Theatre on May 19th and 20th.

These concerts highlight music from Academy Award-winning films that helped define American cinema.  During the concerts, there will be a 'Parade of Stars' on stage and the Philharmonic is inviting the public to participate in a Movie Star Look-Alike/Costume Contest.

The public is encouraged to dress up as their favorite movie star or film icon/character, take a picture, and send it to the Philharmonic at evphil@evansvillephilharmonic.org

For those needing help with their look, The Nick Nackery is offering a 10% discount off the total purchase to anyone who mentions the Philharmonic's Hooray for Hollywood concert.

The deadline for entries is 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11.

The Philharmonic will post the entries on its Facebook page and let the fans vote for their favorites. Voting will be open on May 12 through May 16 and the winners will be announced on Thursday, May 17.

"This is a fun way to get the community involved in the production of the shows," says Carrie Marrett, the Philharmonic's director of marketing. "It's also an opportunity to get another use out of that Indiana Jones costume tucked in your closet."

All entries will have the opportunity to participate in the 'Parade of Stars' during the concerts. The winners of the Facebook contest will receive complimentary tickets to Hooray for Hollywood, acknowledgment on stage during the 'Parade of Stars' during each concert, plus a bag of swag fit for a movie star.

Movies being featured during the concerts include Wizard of Oz, Gone with the Wind, Breakfast at Tiffany's, James Bond, The Godfather, Casablanca, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Pirates of the Caribbean, Scent of a Woman, Titanic, The King's Speech, Jurassic Park, Jaws, and Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone.

"However, we're not limiting it to stars or characters from just those films," says Marrett.  "This is a celebration of what Hollywood has contributed to music over the years, so we welcome every star from Carey Grant and Marilyn Monroe to characters from The Matrix, Star Wars, and Toy Story. It should be a thrill to see a variety of stars on stage."

Entries must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 11. Visit the Philharmonic's website for details and official rules.
