Automated logs assist Warrick Co. deputies in suspected drug arrest

WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

The Warrick County Sheriff's Office caught two suspected meth makers with help from automated pseudoephedrine logs.

April Diggs and Donavon Jarvis are charged with possession of meth making materials. The two are accused of purchasing an illegal amount of pseudoephedrine.

Sheriff's Officials were able to see all purchases on an online database used by pharmacies and law enforcement.

In the past, the paper logs were available to law enforcement anytime they requested them, but the information wasn't all that helpful because it wasn't current.

But in Wednesday's case, members from the Sheriff's Office were able to park near the intersection of Highway 66 and 261, near several pharmacies and watch as suspects drove between CVS, Walgreens, Walmart or Schnucks, purchasing pseudoephedrine.

The Sheriff's Office says a narcotics team sets up a surveillance where they can monitor the logs as the purchases are being made simultaneously.

They say typically they look for groups of people making rounds to the different pharmacies.

"What these officers are looking for is maybe there are more than one person in the car. They are out of county, you know, why would you drive all the way from Vanderburgh County to come over and buy your cold medicine.  When you see them go into Walgreens or the CVS, or Schnucks, it becomes obvious they are there to buy it for illegal means," said Warrick County Sheriff's Lt. Michael Wilder.

The Sheriff's Office says they follow up on the drug logs a few times a week.
