Missing SIU Student's Body Found

The body of a Southern Illinois University student who may have drowned while canoeing with other fraternity pledges has been found.

Nineteen-year-old freshman Brent Johnson of Seymour disappeared on Sunday when the canoe he was in overturned in Cedar Lake near Carbondale.

Jackson County authorities say his body was recovered Thursday afternoon at the Cove Hollow area of Cedar Lake.

Johnson was camping with other pledge members of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at the time of the accident.

The fraternity's executive director has said alcohol may have been involved.

Authorities say they were called to the scene for a possible drowning.

Johnson's body was taken to a local hospital. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.
