New scholarship program helps adults get back to class

MUHLENBERG CO., KY (WFIE) -

Madisonville Community College is making it easier for adults to go back to college. It's part of a new scholarship program at the Muhlenberg campus.

There's an informational session this week about the program and they're encouraging anyone interested to come out and learn more about it.

The program is designed to help adults who have made a good start on their associates degree, but for some reason haven't had a chance to finish. To qualify, you must be a resident of Muhlenberg County, completed at least 30 credit hours of college, and be someone who did not take any college classes from January to May of this year. Students accepted will get a $250 stipend each semester they are enrolled at MCC.

"Life gets in the way for a lot of our adult students so this is an opportunity no matter where they stopped. We're trying to get them to come back, begin again, start over and take advantage of some of those hours they've already earned," said MCC Dean of Student Affairs Jay Parrent.

If you're interested in attending the free informational session, it's from 5 p.m.-7 p.m. this Thursday at MCC's Muhlenberg campus.
